Simpson v.s. Futurama :Did Matt Groening Bet on the Wrong Horse?
Sure, I have spent nearly all of my childhood and all of my adulthood with them. I have shared in their laughs, their accomplishments, and their tears, and although they are not my biological family, I have grown right along side them. Homer, Marge, Bart, Lisa and Maggie Simpson were almost a surrogate family for most of my generation and many a memeber of Generation Y.
However, over the past 18 years of their syndication I have matured and as all children do, grew apart and resented my "family".
After having watched Futurama for the past few years I wondered to myself " Why would Matt Groening chose to pursue the Simpsons over Futurama?" Futurama has much more potential to withstand the of time and because of this would not leave it's viewers thinking "Oh God- not again."
The Simpsons have rehashed and rehashed to the point where if I see another yellow cartoon carachter wielding a donut I am going to scream. Maybe I am not alone in thinking this?
I believe that Matt Groening's talent had remained stagnant and the the Simpsons have hindered his career despite the numerous times he has laughed himself to the bank.
Bender, Leela, Frye, and the Professor deserved so much more of his time and effort, but have remained on a rerun back-burner statues for what seems long enough to have thawed Frye out manually. (Futurama fans - you know what I am saying)
I pity the man that feels that Futurama is only deservant of a straight to DVD release movie.
Best Nightspot in Detroit: The Majestic Theatre Center
It's not called "Detroit Rock City" for nothing. Detroit offers many a niteclub where one can see live music. After having been to damn near all of them in my 14 years of concert going and music journalism, I have come to the conclusion that the Majestic Theatre Center is my favorite. Located right on Woodward ( Detroit's main street) in the heart of Downtown Detroit, the Majestic Theatre Center is more than just a night club. The center is a city block long, and in addition to it's holding 2 live music venues under it's roof, it also boasts a restauraunt, a pizzeria, 5 bars, 10 billiard tables , and 16 bowling lanes. The Majestic is home of the Garden Bowl- Detroit's oldest active bowling alley.
The 2 live music venues are the Majestic Theatre, and the Magic Stick. While the Majestic mainly caters to national acts, the Magic Stick predominatly books bands with a less wide appeal. Many Detroit bands have recieved their start in the Magic Stick, including both the White Stripes, and the Von Bondies. Bands I have seen at the Magic Stick include the Raveonettes, the Reverend Horton Heat, Johnny Marr and the Healers, the Detroit Cobras, the Hentchmen, and the Groovie Ghoulies. Bands I have seen at the Majestic include the Old 97's and Cracker. Rolling Stone magazine agrees with my praise of the Magic Stick having declared it the best live music venue in Detroit.
In addition to the wide variety of activities in the Majestic Center, it is fairly inexpensive. Nights with bands performing can range between $5 and $20 depending on the venue and the artist in question. On nights without live music, there is typically no cover. The Majestic Center is also home to "Rock and Rummage" a rock and roll influenced rummage sale. Rock and Rummage is a great place to find unique gifts and items that would typically range in the hard to find category.
If you get hungry, the Majestic Cafe has a high end menu with items including American and Mediterranean cuisine in a bistro like atmosphere. Their menu includes lamb chops in a hoisin glaze, bleu cheese encrusted tenderloins, and bourbon style linguini. If pizza is more your style, Sgt. Pepperoni's is also located in the Center featuring quick serve items including sandwiches and salads. Sgt.Pepperoni's also offers delivery to the surrounding areas.
Upcoming bands to play the Center include:
Front Line Assembly
Fishbone
The Amino Acids
The Nekromantix
Melt Bannana
The Majestic Center is located at 4120-4140 Woodward Avenue , Detroit MI 48201. The phone number is (313) 833-9700
The Majestic Center also offers free shuttle service to it's patrons both before and after Detroit city attractions icluding events at the DIA, Comerica Park, Joe Louis Arena, and Ford Field.

Why is it that anyone who throws around the word "drivel" seems to think they are far more sophisticated than the rest of the planet? Mr. The Proofreader likely wakes up with "drivel" caked to his or her face. Considering what this site actually is--cutting edge content relevant to those that care. What a pompous twaddling ass riddled with idiocy. Proofreaders do not teach. They do not even correct. They find and mark errors to be corrected. There is not one professional author whose work is not emblazoned with spelling, grammar, and punctuation errors. There are even best selling author's novels with error-laden text which, (dare I say it?), perfect proofreaders and expert editors have so erroneously over-looked. Ms. Fevers, your content is relevant and your voice is dynamic. Utopian, even.
