Nuffins Bakery - Gluten free mixes, flour, and moreI just received a box full of all sorts of really cool mixes, and flour that a dear
friend of mine bought for me from Nuffins Bakery, a new gluten free mix
business here in the Colorado Springs area.
What is so special about these mixes that someone would ship a box full to
me you ask? You see, I have severe food allergies, and cannot eat any wheat,
oats, any grain that has gluten in it. No yeast, meat, nuts, in short, as my
doctor said, I can only eat "boring" foods!
Well not anymore! Now thanks to Nuffins Bakery, I can eat all sorts of cool and
yummy foods like, chocolate cake, chocolate chip cookies, pancakes, and
waffles, sugar cookies, muffins, and anything I can make with regular wheat
flour, I can now again make with Nuffins Bakery's gluten free flour!
I've had a food allergy for over two years now, but only this year figured out
that what was causing me so much pain, and sickness was food. Then came
the elimination of different foods to find out exactly what I was, and was not
allergic too. It was just awful trying to figure out what I could eat, and the
more I discovered that I couldn't eat, the more horrible it became.
Over two months I weeded out everything but fruits, vegetables, fish, and
rice, and that can get old and "boring" fast. I cannot tell you how many times
I've sat and watched my family enjoying a sandwich, or a pizza, or cookies
and cake. I cannot have any of it, and these are two meals I LOVE!!! Well
thanks to Nuffins Bakery, I can have most of those things now. I can have
cake, and cookies, and even pizza, as long as I don't have any meat on it, and
very little cheese. I'm thinking cold garden pizza, mmmmm so yummy!
I owe so much thanks to my dear friend Jeani Lee for sending these awesome
mixes to me, and to Nuffins Bakery for starting this new business venture that
is going to be a huge help, and Blessing to so many people who suffer from
food allergies.
If you have food allergies, you are going to love Nuffins Bakery. They carry all
kinds of yummy baking mixes, cookies, cakes, muffins, pancakes, and
waffles, and just plain flour too. You can visit Nuffins Bakery online at:

Now I am off to cook up some chocolate cake, mmmmmm.........
Fruits or Vegetables? That is the Question! We've all heard the question asked, is a tomato a fruit or a vegetable? Well
now I have been asked, are GOURDS Fruit, or Vegetable? I did a little research
to find out if a gourd was a fruit or a vegetable, and here is what I found out
about both the tomato, and the gourd, as well as all fruits and vegetables.
Gourds, tomato, squash, pumpkin, and cucumbers, are, (are you ready for
this friends?), from a botanical perspective, all FRUITS!!! Yes, that's right,
fruits! Shocking isn't it? That is what I thought when I read what I read on this
horticulture web site. According to this site, what makes a fruit a fruit, is how,
actually, where the seed grows. Fruits grow their seeds on the inside of the
fruit. Vegetables do not. Vegetables grow their seeds on the plant, usually on
a stalk that grows from the plant, and inside of a flower.
Let's look at this a little closer, and I think you will see the connection, just as
I did. Here is a list of fruits, I would like you to think about each one, and
where you would find their seeds..., oranges, pears, apples, watermelon,
papaya, mango, peaches, cantaloupe, kiwi, plums, tangerines, nectarines, and
cherry. I have left out a few, but you get the idea.
Let's look at what we know to be a vegetable now... Let's see, there are,
cucumbers, tomatoes, squash, pumpkin, (some believe pumpkins are a
veggie), lettuce, celery, cabbage, spinach, cauliflower, and broccoli.
Okay, we have our fruits and our veggies separated above, or do we? Look at
these two groups, and think about where you find their seeds. Yes, all the
fruits listed above, are indeed fruits by botanical standards, but are the
vegetables really all vegetables? Tomatoes, squash, cucumbers, these are
NOT vegetables, they are fruits, because their seeds grow on the inside, not
on the stem or stalk of the plant.
So why are so many fruits called vegetables? Good question, and the answer
just may shock your socks off... The law says that certain fruits are
vegetables, and if you are a farmer, and sell your fruits and veggies at the
farmers market, you better make sure that you know what the LAW says a
fruit and vegetable are, because if you get it wrong, you can get into a lot of
legal trouble! The reason... MONEY!!! In 1893 most tomatoes were imported
from the West Indies, and were subject to a 10% tarrif. Fruits, however were
not subject to any tarrif. So the Supreme Court made a decision to pass a law
making tomatoes, vegetables.
So there you have it. From a botanical point, Gourds are fruits, as are squash
and cucumbers, and even tomatoes. So for those who have wondered about
this question, you now have an answer. However, from a legal aspect, these
are all vegetables, not fruits! Strange, but so very true!!!
